This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Help our future filmmakers see their work the way it was meant to be seen. Currently, our film and video production class students watch films using an old projector in our classroom. This includes both films they themselves have worked hard to make and examples of famous film they use as inspiration. Technology has advanced so much in recent years that showing film on old projectors make it difficult for students to see some of the elements that are essential to modern filmmaking such as framerates, image quality, and color grading.
This new television would be used to show students the differences that even minor adjustments made during the filming process can have on the final products.
Students will be able to see subtle differences that can be lost when using an older display such as how a change in framerate can change the entire mood and feel of a film. This will allow them to develop and grow as filmmakers as they learn to use all the storytelling tools at their disposal.
The work our student filmmakers have made in the past has helped connect our students through regular school years and in difficult ones such as when we were practicing distance learning during the pandemic. Their work has won awards from various groups including the County Board of Supervisors and been shown in various student film festivals. They have also been youth advocates by creating documentaries and PSAs regarding topics that are important to them. Please help them continue their important work.
