My Students

Walk into my classroom and you will see 25 students noisily engaged in learning. Some students may be working together on a puzzle, building an obstacle course for robots, counting with math manipulatives, curled up with a book or working with me in a small group. As a visitor, these students look very similar, but as their teacher, I know which student may not have had supper last night, who stayed with older siblings while Mom worked a second job, whose parents are getting a divorce and which one is homeless and living in a shelter.

Our classroom is a family.

We may not begin the year that way but it is definitely how we end the year. We laugh, cry and celebrate with each other. We care. We love.

My Project

On November 27, my students and I will experience a once in a lifetime event. The well-known children's author, David M. Schwartz will be visiting our school district. We will attend a performance by Mr. Schwartz during the school day. We will also have a chance to attend a nighttime performance and a book signing.

"How Much Is a Million?" is probably his best known book.

There are now other books in the 'millions" series. Mr. Schwartz has also written a collection of books about animals and objects found in nature.

I want my students to have a lasting memento of their experience. I want each student to have a book written by this author. I am also requesting some of his books to be added to our classroom library.
