My Project
I love to see books in the hands of my students, and I work to introduce students to a variety of genres, writing styles, themes, characters, and authors throughout the year. I have gathered a collection of books for my classroom library throughout the years, but I would love to add a selection of fresh titles and diverse genres and authors beyond those I currently have available. My students complete independent reading projects for class to give them opportunities to explore books of their choosing. I'm always astounded by their interests, their choice of books, and insights throughout their reading exploration.
Since storytelling acts as a mirror with which we view ourselves and the world around us, I want to offer my students a buffet of book options in my classroom; through stories, my students can try on the lives and experiences of others.
They can explore aspects of diversity, acceptance, history, tolerance, morality, and identity.
I have chosen each of these titles based on student feedback and recommendations, as well as a personal recognition that my current small classroom library has holes with missing genres and a lack of diverse authors. I'd like to expand the book options and, in turn, the horizons of my students.
