"We only have enough paper for everyone to make one painting!" I get tired of hearing myself say that to my students and I'm sure they get tired of hearing it.
The other day my students took turns squeezing and tapping an empty bottle of paint into a cup to get the last remains of paint out.
I teach kindergarten in a high poverty school in one of Oklahoma's largest school districts.
The students in my class are diverse in their ethnic and racial makeup, and many of them speak English as their second language. Despite obstacles that they encounter, my students come to school eager to learn.
My Project
Paint might not seem like a necessity to some people, but my kids would beg to differ.
Our class motto is: Work hard now! Play later! My students work very hard everyday to develop their reading, writing, math, science and social study skills. After completing our work, for 25 minutes everyday we have enhancement centers. Enhancement centers include: dramatic play, blocks, art, computers, and science.
Art is one of the most popular choices. Unfortunately, I have had to limit the supplies to "stretch" them a little longer. As a matter of fact, the other day we actually made paint out of mud! It worked great for painting trees, teepees and horses, but many of my students enjoy painting bright suns and colorful rainbows. Mud will not suffice for much longer.
Having a fresh supply of paint and paper will keep the creativity and enthusiasm going in the art center.
Please help replenish our dwindling paint supplies so that my students can continue to develop their artistic skills!
Thank you for caring about my students and reading about how you can help them!
