My Students

My students are second graders in a small elementary. This is a middle-class neighborhood, deemed semi-rural even though the city proper has nearly 40,000 people. That means my children tell me about their chickens and horses as well as their hoverboards and gymnastics lessons. They are taught to be hard-working and dependable, family traits that translate well to school. Our school has teachers who are teaching the children of their former students, creating a family-feeling school culture.

These children come from varying socio-economic levels, so their access to technology at home also varies.

My Project

STEM lessons are about solving problems. I plan to create some doozies for my littles to unravel! With our STEM boxes filled with a variety of materials, my students' creativity can be unleashed from inside the boxes schools usually promote.

With the magnetic tiles, my students can physically create structures to solve these problems, after they've worked on potential solutions in brainstorming sessions and on paper.

Magnets are fascinating as well as educational.

The dice will be used in both STEM boxes and in math games. They are excellent number generators for math fact practice, too. The variety of colors makes them fancy!

The markers are for an art project, because I had a few dollars left.
