My Project
At the beginning of every school year, my students and I read the story, "How to Read a Book." It seems silly, but for students who have fewer and fewer books in their hands, it's an important read. It encourages them to find a book they like, find a buddy to read with, and, one of the most important steps for students is finding a space where they feel comfortable reading. That can be outside, it can be under their desk, in a comfy chair, or lying on the grass.
I want to give my students a magical reading corner full of books they'll love, exciting bookmarks, and reading buddies they can read to and cuddle with.
My students are second graders, still learning to find a passion for reading. Many of them are English Language Learners (ELL) who are learning the language through the books that they are reading. Making reading a fun and engaging activity for them will help them find a passion for reading that will, hopefully, follow them their whole life.
