This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you recall the carpet your classroom had in elementary school? Our classroom carpet is a magical place where learning takes place. Practicing flash cards with a classmate, listening to a story, learning how to read a calendar, learning to sit attentively, and listening to a mini-lesson, these are just some of the activities that are done on a classroom rug where some of our best learning occurs.
My first graders are the most creative, happiest and imaginative little people I've ever met!
These students come from a diverse set of backgrounds and include English Language Learners, special education students and 100% of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. After 10 years, our classroom rug is worn out and dirty. My classroom needs to be a colorful and clean place to learn in.
My Project
With a new classroom carpet, my students will have a comfortable, bright and clean learning area. We spend many hours throughout the day completing both group and individual activities on the rug. It is optimal for students to have both their desks and carpet to sit at during the school day.
Having a new carpet will provide the opportunity for more in-depth teaching and learning by giving a clean alternative place in the classroom that students feel they can concentrate and enjoy what they are learning.
With a classroom carpet, my students will have a richer learning environment this school year.
