My Students
My students walk into the classroom every day with many backgrounds, stories, situations and struggles but no matter what, they still try so very hard. I teach learning support students and over 75% of my children from year to year are on free/reduced breakfast and lunch. They often do not get to experience other things that children take for granted, but, we try our very best here to provide the same opportunities for ALL children like book fair shopping, field trips that cost money that the parent is supposed to provide, backpacks filled with food on the weekends so that we are certain that they are eating when they aren't with us, hygiene items and clothes so that they can feel fresh and awake, ready to learn each day!
Despite so many hardships that most of these children encounter, my students are always eager to learn and do their best.
We desperately need an updated library of books that are current and interactive! It is important that we have books to appeal to all levels and interests and my library hasn't been updated in over a decade. It is much overdue and a critical component in learning!
My Project
These new reading books will help students of all ages and ability levels in my primary learning support classroom, develop a true love and enjoyment of reading! They will be able to "check" the books out for a week if we are remote and use these to enrich their online curriculum.
While in school, we will read these books together and complete age appropriate hands on projects to corelate with the stories!
