This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a new teacher in a high poverty school, I'm always facing the challenge of creating an AMAZING learning environment for my students. My students also have their challenges in and out of the classroom, but they truly deserve the world. Even with the struggles they may face, they come every day eager to learn. I am hoping to provide as many engaging, purposeful materials as I can to make first grade as fun and engaging as I can for them. First grade is a crucial year for literacy and can often determine the success of their future. Making a difference in this area is always my focus. I love our community and I am hoping to make a difference in the lives of the first graders I have and will have in the future. The classroom is their home away from home and is a place where they can read, learn, and grow.

My Project

The students in my classroom are learning to read each day. In order to foster and grow their new found love of reading I would like to create a cozy and engaging library.

My hope is for a space in our classroom that is treasured by all.

The storage center for leveled books will help students easily find a book that is both interesting and in their reading level. The leveled books and bins will also help to ensure books are accessible to all students at varying reading levels. Students will get to check out books and read them during independent reading time and after finishing their classwork.
