My Students
I have 25 active and vibrant first graders that love and crave hands-on learning. Many speak a second language and all come from various socio-economic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds. My students are truly special in the sense that their backgrounds offer a rich experience to the learning process.
They love learning opportunities that tap into their interests and engage their curiosity.
My goal as their teacher is to design instruction and gather resources that suit their interests and produce a high level of engagement in their learning.
My Project
Guided reading books specifically target children reading at their level. This is important because I want my children to learn how to read and to enjoy reading without frustration. Currently, my class has readers at varied levels, ranging from pre-primer readers to advanced readers. However, we don't have enough books that would meet my students' needs.
The guided reading collection has books that are at the right level for them with classic titles and fun topics for ages 5-6.
The children will enjoy them during small-group guided reading instruction, partner reading, and silent reading while learning sight vocabulary and developing fluency.
