Help me give my students a novel to learn about diversity through the struggles of a girl their age, but from a different culture.

My Students
My students come to this school to receive the best education possible in a public school. They are willing to work harder than most middle school students in order to achieve International Baccalaureate (IB) standards and be best prepared for their continued education.
We have become a family.
It's nice to be able to provide a place that is safe and educational. Students enjoy each other, and it shows!
My Project
Students at my school are very knowledgeable about their own culture, but not so much about the culture of others. We are an International Baccalaureate school so we discuss the world around us and how we can better it. Through this book, students will learn about the struggles of a little girl, about their age, from another country. They will be transported to the tribes of the Sudan through both fiction and non-fiction. They will do a close reading to best understand and connect with what they have just read. It will be most powerful because of the similarities they have with people half a world away.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
