My students are from an inner city section of Cleveland, known for unsafe streets. We focus on making safety one of our top concerns at school because a feeling of safety allows you to focus on learning while at school.
My students are fourth and fifth graders just trying to succeed in education with obstacles that we are trying to overcome to match our counterparts in more affluent areas.
I would like my students to be able to learn modern uses for technology such as Google Docs and online storage, to be ready for future careers.
My Project
Our school district is no longer willing to purchase toner for classroom printers. This is a travesty for the students that are finally learning to use flash drives to save their work, yet they can do nothing to print it out in class. Also, with printing comes the need for more paper, which the district only gives one box of paper per semester. I also already purchase my own box of paper twice a year.
Having access to paper and a classroom printer, that is not out of toner, will make printing reports, and presentations easier without having students leave the classroom.
I am trying to have my classroom become more tech savvy - adding in Chromebooks and flash drives. We will be adding in creating power point presentations, and science reports using Google Docs. Having the ability to print out the presentations to have as "draft" projects while we are learning will greatly help the students to become more fluent in technology.
