This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our classroom is centered around literacy and reading "miles and miles of text" over the course of the year. My goal is to get every kid reading on grade level. This is achieved by teaching students to love reading and providing opportunities to for them to be exposed to lots of different texts.
Our school is highly diverse both culturally and linguistically.
Over 90% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Students come from many countries all over the world and the halls are filled with students speaking to each other in lots of different languages. The school is at the center of the community and offers many opportunities for learning. Students learn to view the world as a place of wonder and exploration. They are full of curiosity and questions. Our students are highly motivated to learn. They constantly work hard to do their best and to improve where they can. Our school is filled with voices, laughter, and learning.
My Project
Our school is lacking many technological resources that enhance learning. Student exposure to technology is limited to one hour a week in the computer lab. Students are not able to spend exploring or using technology daily in the classroom. The requested tablets will be used during literacy and math centers to give my students access to information in new and creative ways. Learning based apps will allow students to learn through play and practice. Our classroom currently only has 2 computers that must be shared by all students. The Surface will be used to increase the number of classroom computers to 3. Allowing students to use programs, not available on the tablets, which will increase language and literacy skills.
Donations to this project will significantly increase my students' access to technologies that will improve their educational experience by increasing their literacy, language, and math skills.
They will have the opportunity to use technology in learning on a daily basis. They will have increased exposure to materials and texts using a variety of learning based activities. Students will get a broader view of the world and a wider base of the learning opportunities that are available.
