My Project
My students come from diverse background but 100% of them walk into my Math class and want to be successful. They carry lots of anxiety about getting the correct answer, and put pressure on themselves to always understand everything the first time they hear it. They work incredibly hard and are always willing to sharing their thinking and ask clarifying questions.
Color paper, notebooks, and incentives encourage students to take pride in their work, to make extra time to get it right, to take risks during class time and persevere through Math even when problems seem daunting.
Notetaking is an important part of learning that my students take on with such care that I make sure to take every moment to positively encourage them while building trust. I see this trust later when students are willing to jump out of their comfort zone and share their thinking. The most impressive things are when my students take over the class in discussions and take the marker from me to explain an answer to the entire class. My students begin to trust and become bold as they build their confidence in Math.
