Help me give my students a photo printer and accessories, morphology instructional resources, Goo Jit Zu sensory toys, a Gravitrax set, a book set, labels, and Clorox wipes.
I'm a Special Education teacher and literacy coach supporting teachers and students in kindergarten through fifth grade in an elementary school in Brooklyn. This school is a Title I funded school, and the majority of the students I support receive free breakfast and lunch.
The neighborhood my school is located in contains one of New York City's largest public housing developments, and most of my students reside there.
Due to the geographic location of the neighborhood, there are few trains and bus routes servicing the community, so my students are very isolated from all of the bells and whistles of New York City.
After the past few years of learning during the pandemic, it's no surprise that there are some gaps in students' learning. The morphology materials will be used by my older students who have mastered the foundational skills of reading, but need additional support to improve their fluency and comprehension of grade level texts. The photo printer and related supplies will be used to not only print photos of students throughout the year, but also high-quality prints of morphology flashcards. The graphic novel book set will be added to my classroom library. I've been collecting books for these transitional readers for the past year and I know they will love this one. The stretchy action figures, Gravitrax set, and Guess Who? game are hands-on items for brain breaks after long periods of work. The other odds and ends are materials to help keep the classroom space clean and organized.
