This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school serves children from kindergarten through eighth grade. About 92% of the students in the school live at or below the poverty line. We are a full-service, inclusion school which means we teach all students with behavioral, social-emotional​, or learning needs. My students work hard and are excited to learn.

Every day the morning announcements end with "What can you do today to make our school more kind, caring and inclusive?"

My classroom consists of 22 students. Seven of my students have Individual Education Plans (IEP) for a range of needs. More than half of my students are bilingual, and English is not their primary language.

My Project

This project consists of a bunch of random items that have we now need to be back in our classroom in the middle of a pandemic. Our projector has broken and without this tool in the classroom, it makes learning extremely challenging. We are asking for power strips because now that we have been using computers more throughout the day to Zoom some of our classes, students are needing a place to charge their Chromebooks during the day.

The biggest item we are asking for in this project is snacks because when students are hungry they are not able to learn.

I always try to provide snacks for kids to help keep them out of the nurse's office, which is often where they go to get some snacks. By keeping snacks in the room it allows kids to stay focused on their work and not their hungry bellies.

We are needing some new math supplies to help us learn our multiplication facts and also to have hands-on material to practice learning about fractions. The fraction pieces allow a clear visual for students when we are comparing fraction sizes.

We also need some new writing notebooks because the ones I provided to the students at the beginning of the year have not come back to the classroom. Many students asked if they could keep their notebooks at home so they have paper at home.
