My Project
Preschool is such a magical year! It is the start of a child's formal education. In our class, students range from 3 to 5 years in age. Students begin to explore new things all around them and how their bodies work and move. Currently, my students are at varying academic levels, and these classroom basics learning materials will allow me to differentiate the activity based on their needs.
Research shows students learn best through play, and that is exactly what they will be able to do with the markers, oil pastels, tape, tissue paper squares, paper trimmer, scissors, labels, magnets, and glue.
These materials will be used during small groups and free choice center time. They will help support the students’ fine motor development, as well as language and social skills. The students will be able to engage in turn taking with one another. It will help them learn to share materials by using their words and help to increase wait time while they’re waiting for a friend to finish using the item. We will use the paper trimmer, binding combs, and hot glue gun with glue sticks to make student-created books. The students will have access to the paper trimmer (with teacher guidance) to trim paper or pictures in the art center.
All these materials will help the students develop their fine motor skills. Developing fine motor skills is so important because it helps build the foundation for important future skills like writing and self-care. The ability to accomplish self-care and everyday tasks by using fine motor skills helps a child's self-esteem and confidence grow, which is exactly what our little learners need.
I cannot wait to see my students’ faces light up when I introduce these awesome learning materials to help support their love for learning. Yipppee!
