My Project
My project consists of 7 items to help my 3rd-grade students with their reading, math, and social skills. The personal whiteboards will help them demonstrate their thinking in whole and small group settings in reading and math, and the legos, digital timers, stress balls, and breathing expanders will be added to my classroom calm-down zone for students to use when regulating their emotions throughout the school day.
Unfortunately, reading and math are two of the most common areas in which my students experience frustration, anxiety, and dysregulation.
Utilizing personal whiteboards in my instruction and providing students with a classroom calm-down space, helps increase my teaching time and differentiate to meet my students' holistic needs.
Below is a more details breakdown of how each item in my project will be used in my classroom:
- lined whiteboards: used to facilitate reading, grammar, and writing activities while also working on correct letter formation and handwriting.
- multiplication whiteboards: used to help my students better understand the foundational skills of multiplication (repeated addition and arrays) and increase fact fluency.
- legos: used as a calm-down tool to help calm anxious minds
- expander balls: used as a calm-down tool to help kids visualize their breathing strategies
- stress ball: used as a calm-down tool to help students with anxiety when working on reading and math
- digital timer: used as a calm-down expectation so students learn to efficiently regulate their emotions and return to classroom instruction
- magnetic anchor chart holder: my classroom was recently outfitted with a magnetic whiteboard. I will use this holder to display applicable anchor charts at the front of my classroom for students to use during math and reading instruction.
