Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

To make history come alive for fifth-grade students, I plan to incorporate art into our social studies lessons. By using beads and string to create Native American designs, students will not only learn about the history behind these patterns but also experience the cultural significance of the art. Additionally, we’ll explore the meaning of the circle, a symbol central to many Native American cultures, by painting our own interpretations.

Once the students finish their projects, we’ll display them in pocket charts along the hallways, allowing the entire school to appreciate the beauty and history through the eyes of fifth graders.

This approach will give students a personal connection to the past, while encouraging creativity and teamwork.

Ultimately, I hope these art projects will help students see history as something living and meaningful, giving them a deeper understanding of Native American cultures and traditions, all while fostering a greater sense of pride in their work.
