My students need a complete set of early language folder games, wireless classroom headphone set, CD and cassette player to use in the listening center.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you recall the joy of listening to your favorite Dr. Seuss book? How listening to the rhyming words and silly phrases made you feel? I want to create that experience for my students. They need to listen to stories and rhymes on a daily basis to improve reading and comprehension.
My students live in an impoverished inner-city community.
They don't have much at home, yet they come to school exited to learn. Most of my students are English language learners, and for most this is their first schooling experience. They enjoy listening to stories and hands-on activities.
My Project
My students need a listening center to help them develop their reading skills. Listening to stories on CD will give them the practice needed to become not only fluent English speakers, but also fluent readers. Listening to stories also will aid them with understanding what is being read. These resources will allow my students the opportunity to develop their reading comprehension skills, listening skills, fluency and self confidence. The folder games will help them practice skills such as the alphabetic principal, phonemic awareness, phonics, and vocabulary.
This project is very important to my students because it will provide them the opportunity to listen to several high interest books that will help them develop their reading comprehension skills.
Please help foster my students love for reading and allow them the opportunity to become lifelong learners.
