A Light for Veggie Learning

My students need a light fixture to enable the tomatoes and green peppers to grow properly.

This project is fully funded

The students at this alternative setting school range from 6th-12th grade. The classes I teach are family and consumer science in nature which includes a foods class. I want the students to experience the veggies from hydroponics to the table. A look into what it would be like to grow veggies in an apartment and still have that farm fresh taste at dinner.

The light we used last year was donated and no longer works. These underprivileged and at-risk students want to continue and expand the present project, but have no lighting. The look on their faces when a seed sprouts in pure amazement and they cannot believe something they planted is growing.

The classroom has the hydroponic set-ups, but in order to successfully grow our vegetables we need a grow light. The foods class plans cooking projects based on when the veggies are at their prime to be picked. The students take control of the project from seed to table and then to their homes to show off their new talents.

I have local support from a hydroponic store but I need you financial support to keep my students alive and interested in something exciting and educational! These are at-risk students from low income areas that have little life experiences. You will make a difference!
