My students are starting their final year of elementary school and I want to make it the best year yet! This will be my first year teaching 5th grade and I am very excited for this new challenge.
5th graders are discovering themselves and becoming advocates for themselves and others!
I want to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for every student so they feel they can express themselves and explore their opinions. My students come from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. I want to make sure they all feel represented, supported, and comfortable in our classroom.
My Project
After a year of online learning, I want to give my 5th graders as many opportunities to read physical books as possible. It is my first year teaching 5th grade and I'm finding that many of my students' favorite series are missing from our classroom library.
My students get animated talking to me about their favorite characters and books!
I want to provide them with more books that will excited them about reading workshop and inspire their own writing and storytelling. This project would provide our class with several series that my students are constantly requesting. These series will give students books to read all year long and inspire conversation and connection among students.
We are also doing a fantasy unit in reading workshop this year. This project would supply us with sets of fantasy novels at my students' reading levels. Students will read these books in small groups to build comprehension skills together.
