This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are the best 3rd graders in the world! It's true, I promise. All 30 of my students enter my classroom each morning ready to share experiences, learn and to grow together every day.

Located on Chicago's West Side, I teach at a school where 96% of my students qualify for free and reduced lunches and almost half are English Language Learners.

This does not define them. They are hopeful dreamers, thinkers and readers! This group of 8 and 9 year olds love to learn more than anything. As their teacher, I do the best I can everyday to facilitate this thirst for knowledge!

My Project

I am requesting some new and engaging books for my classroom library. My students choose books to read from our library every single day and I want them to have the opportunity to choose a book that is not only at their reading level, but also one they are excited to go home and read each night!

From graphic novels like Diary of a Wimpy Kid and exciting adventures like Harry Potter, to modern day myths like the Goddess Girls series, I have selected age approriate chapter books, from various genres, that are sure to engage my eager 3rd grade readers! Please donate any amount you can to help get these books in their hands!

I chose books, some per request of my students, that the students have a genuine interest in! My students gravitate towards modern books with modern characters that they can relate to, and our current library is seriously lacking. We will use these everyday in the classroom for silent reading time, for critical reading response, and students check out books to take home each night! I put this project together, so that my students have choices that will excite and encourage them to read!
