This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at an amazing school where almost all of my inner city students are from low income backgrounds. They are a mixture of Hispanic and African American students. The student population is also comprised largely of English Language Learners and students with special needs. As teachers, we do everything in our power to make sure students have all of the necessary materials to be successful. Our students and parents are always grateful that we find ways to supply our students with learning tools to make their school year successful.
My Project
I am requesting leveled books to give every student an opportunity to read independently. Our current book collection is full of great books but unfortunately my students are not there yet. My students need books that are engaging, full of rich text, and vivid illustrations. These books will arrive shelf-ready from Follett, a library vendor, and they will be immediately available for use. Each book will be labeled, and each student can pick a book according to their reading level. The more they read, the more my students grow!
Picture books open our imagination, are especially powerful tools for delivering important and impactful messages in an accessible format, and spark a joy of learning, and create life-long learners.
