My students need need a greater variety of genres and levels of books that they have access to. These include a set of graphic novels, a collection by Jerry Spinelli, and other assorted high interest titles.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students understand that in reading, like in the sports of basketball or baseball, the only way to get better is to practice. They have built their reading stamina up to 30 minutes and are all aware of their independent reading levels.
Unfortunately, our class leveled library does not have a variety of genres which meet their interests (a key element in encouraging students to read).I work as a 6th grade reading teacher in a low income area.
Our school is a Title 1 school and most families cannot afford the luxury of buying chapter books. With this project I will be able to support their desire to read and promote healthy reading habits.
My Project
This project will help continue to build a leveled library which helps empowers students to build their reading comprehension by giving them access to a variety of books at their independent reading level. I will use the funds to purchase a wide variety of genres and level them according to Guided Reading standards.
Read is fundamental to a successful education.
By helping stock our class library students will be motivated to continue to build their literacy. They will also have the opportunity to further develop a love of reading.
