My Project
All students in my class and the greater population receive free or reduced lunches. Most of the students I serve are special needs students who are diagnosed with dyslexia, autism, or learning disability. Special needs students' brain-based genetic trait makes reading, writing, and spelling difficult. Although children with a certain disability may have trouble with written and verbal language, it has nothing to do with a lack of intellect.
These children are bright and talented individuals who just need a different approach to learning.
I make it my duty to look at the big picture for my class and go beyond just teaching them reading, writing, and spelling skills. These students need to be taught research skills, as well as other social skills that they can live and survive in a changing technological world. As such, the right kind of tools can make a vast difference for all students whether they have a disability or not.
