Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is a busy place! It is in use eight periods every day, including lunch. Students are practicing instruments, studying music theory, honing computer skills, and sometimes just coping with life as a teenager!
My students live in the inner city.
They pass sites and sounds that no child should have to on a daily basis simply traveling to and from school. Many students come from broken homes. Many students have to deal with drug addicted family members or physically abusive guardians. My classroom is a refuge.
My Project
This laptop will go straight to my students for high quality projects. My students will be installing operating systems such as Linux, building websites with HTML and CSS, editing images with GIMP, and much more from the Exploring Computer Science curriculum. We will be using Doceri in the classroom for lessons and presentations. The enhanced graphics capability will allow us to do 3D modeling with Blender in hopes of creating some really cool objects to print in 3D! This would truly be a laptop that will last and benefit many students for years to come.
This project will give my students vital research and testing skills, as well as provide the foundation for the all important tasks of determining what the next computer model will be to occupy my busy classroom.
I fully believe that my students will learn vital 21st century skills that will give them advantages in college and future careers.
