My Students
My school is a low-income school with around 50% of all students being on free or reduced lunch. My group of students ranges from advanced STEM ability to resource and special education. They are hard-working, challenging, and diverse students who just need a little boost and a glimpse at a different world. My particular demographic for this project are those students that don't really fit in anywhere else and need a group with similar interests, talents, and hobbies. I love their enthusiasm and creativity!
My Project
Dungeons and Dragons, teaches a bevy of valuable life skills that helped many famous, successful, and creative people get their start. Students learn collaboration: teamwork leads to success, and it's okay to rely on each other. They learn preparedness, innovation, creativity, problem solving skills, negotiation, and communication as there is often more than one way to solve the problem. Students learn to be brave: risk can lead to reward, and you will be able to heal from your mistakes, defeats, and embarrassments. Students gain an opportunity to try new things and live new lives, learning empathy, visualization, tolerance, how to socialize. Additionally. These materials will benefit the school's board games club.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
