My students need various hands-on activities to practice their skills with letters and sounds. They will use: alphabet puzzles, an activity for the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and letter magnets.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Kindergarten is often the first experience in school for my students. They are precocious, curious and creative. Many of them have already been labeled "at-risk" because of the obstacles they have faced in their past. Our school is located in an area of low economic development, and my students just don't have the same access to resources that many other students do.
The alphabet is the foundation of reading.
My students enter Kindergarten ready to learn their letters and sounds. We need resources for them to learn in a hands-on way. Every day the kids work in workstations where they have the opportunity to practice these skills. Once they have mastered their sounds, they are well on their way to becoming readers!
My Project
One of the biggest goals I have for my students is that they master their letters and sounds. Every day we practice these skills in workstations where the students cooperate with a partner to complete activities. I also work with them individually with these materials in small group instruction.
Learning to read should be fun!
Students need to learn by doing. They need hands-on activities so they can learn in an exciting way. They need to learn by discovering. We need resources to do that. You could help my students build a foundation of reading skills that will help them throughout their entire academic career.
We are requesting resources to use in our reading workstations: an alphabet puzzle, learning locks and a magnetic matching game. We are also asking for an activity that goes along with the story Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (a story about letters who sneak out to go up the coconut tree). Lastly we are asking for letter puzzle mats that my students can use to practice the letters we are learning.
