Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a cute old little school in Houston, TX. This area of Houston was seriously damaged by Hurricane Harvey two years ago.
My students are happy kids with social and economic disadvantages.
They are eager to learn, but they are lacking resources. They are capable of learning. While in other areas students get support from their parents, my students' parents are at work trying to provide for their kids.
This school year will be a bit challenging facing the students' circumstances. We will certainly benefit from the generous donations of the participants, and we will be grateful.
My Project
We recently rescued a red slider turtle that appeared in a backyard. Students were super excited. We decide to keep it. We gave it a name. His name is Max. We are researching all about red slider turtles. We figured out it is a male. We currently have a small plastic tank with two big rocks where Max sunbathes. We saved some money for a water filter, but it didn't work. We saved some more money and we got a better filter. A parent donated food for it. We are learning so much about turtles. Max is part of our class now, and we would like for him to be more comfortable.
