This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project will help us gather all the essentials to set up a freshwater aquarium—including a tank, gravel, water conditioner, filter, test kits, thermometer, and a safe net. We'll also need cleaning supplies like algae scrubbers, siphons, and water treatment tools to maintain a healthy environment for the fish once it arrives.

Bringing a classroom pet into our learning environment does more than spark excitement—it teaches responsibility, empathy, and the importance of caring for another living being.

But before we welcome our fishy friend, we need to create a clean, safe, and inviting home.

To make the aquarium feel like more than just a tank, I’m also requesting kid-friendly décor like aquatic plants, fun figurines, a colorful background, and LED lighting. These touches will make the tank visually engaging for students while mimicking a more natural habitat for our future pet.

Students will help with setup, learn how to maintain water quality, and take turns monitoring cleanliness and temperature. While we won’t be introducing the fish just yet, this project lays the foundation for long-term care and will help ensure we’re fully prepared to welcome our new classroom companion.

This experience connects beautifully to science standards about ecosystems, life cycles, and habitats, while also building life skills like responsibility, routine, and compassion.
