Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is very diverse. Students come from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. We are located near one of the largest and busiest shipping ports in the world. The students are very proud of their school and town.

The students in my class are an upbeat and energetic group of learners.

They yearn to learn new things academically inside the class. They are hard workers who put forth their best effort. My students love coming to school and enjoy all subject areas!

My Project

My class has a Reading Workshop instructional block every day for one hour. Reading Workshop begins everyday with a mini lesson on reading comprehension skills or strategies for students to apply in their own independent reading. The remaining time is spent by students independently reading books of their choice. This is the most important time of Reading Workshop. The students are given uninterrupted time to read books of their choice. They are able to escape school and into the exciting adventures in their books.

Students are able to choose up to four books from the classroom library and this donation of seat storage sacks will help keep their books organized.

My students are currently storing their books on top of their desks. When we do projects in other subject areas such as science or social studies, we have to find another place to put the reading books. The seat storage sacks will make a huge difference in student organization of materials. It will also allow us to work on big projects at our desks without having to move around all our things.
