This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Books are the priceless gifts that anyone can ever be given! They take you on adventures without even leaving your current location. However, if those books don't have a home to keep them secure the adventure can become lost and damaged for the next person that decides to read the book.
My approaching 3rd graders, although I haven’t had the full opportunity to meet them yet, are a wonderful group of children.
They attend a Title One school located in the South Bronx in which 30% live in a shelter home. Their goal is to read at their grade level by the end of the school year. Reading is the foundational key that ties all the subjects together. Therefore, it is my ultimate goal to have them each leave me in June with the adoration of books.
Many struggle in the area of reading and don't have the resources to fully support and grow their reading muscle at home. For example, they do not have books to read at home. Being that this is a need for majority of my students, they rely heavily on our classroom library. Despite the obstacles they face on a daily basis they are always eager to learn and never give up hope. As their teacher I want to provide them with the opportunities to read and most importantly instill the joy of reading despite challenges in their lives.
My Project
Being that I teach the entire 3th grade (48 students) Literacy, it is challenging for the classroom library books to remain in tip-top shape when students don’t have an actual keep-safe area to place their books when traveling from class to class. I am requesting fifty book baggies, one for each student.
The book baggies will be my students’ books safe haven! The bags are waterproof and have a label for students to write their name. Not only would the book baggies protect my students' leveled books but it will also provide my students with the opportunity to be responsible of maintaining their reading books. Students, as well, will be able to bring their independent books home to their families each night to read! During class time, my students will be able to keep their leveled books in their book baggies to secure them so they can stay safe for long periods of time and if they are reading one book, the others are safe in their “book home!”
Your donation will help maintain the books my students are reading and adoring safe and sound!
The use of book baggies will secure their leveled books. The baggies will also create a home for the books that my students are reading each day. Please help by providing a home for their books! Every dollar helps!
