This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom has the most amazing first graders! They are working so hard to read and they put so much effort into their work. Our classroom has many books in our library, but no real way to organize them.

Our school is located in an industrial area and a majority of our students are on the free lunch program.

Many are also struggling to learn English. In September, my students would bring books from our library for me to read to the class. By October, the boys and girls wanted to share the pictures from books in front of the class. Now, they are trying to read the books to their classmates. It is so exciting to see them grow as readers! Though we have many books, our classroom library is not very user-friendly, as there is no real organization of the books. My 6-7 year old students also take such pride in completing their work accurately and neatly. We have a student file box, but they are 12 years old and made of cardboard. The cardboard is starting to disintegrate.

My Project

The library book bins will be a very welcome addition to our classroom. It will allow me to sort books by reading level and subject. My students will be able to quickly find the books that they are able to read independently. The wooden mailboxes will help to keep my students' precious work and projects safe and will let them know that their work is important.

This donation will truly be an inspiration for my students.

They will have better access to their much loved library books and will gain confidence when they find books that they can read independently. The mailboxes will help my students realize that their work is very precious and that it is important to do their best work.
