Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

On any given day, my classroom represents nearly every continent with students working together to learn English. They are excited to learn about each other, about the USA, and most importantly, from each other.

My students come from varied backgrounds, and each has a story to share about their often arduous and perilous journey to my school and an education from abroad.

They are overcoming social and emotional barriers each day to receive an education. Learning English in my classroom is often their happiest moment, a chance to remember the home they left and to become a citizen of their new home here in America.

My school is situated on the edge of an industrial park in the South Bronx, within the nation’s poorest Congressional District. We are a Title I school, which means that each student qualifies for free breakfast and lunch. At any given moment, many families are potentially experiencing periods of homelessness. I teach 75 students hailing from Yemen, Honduras, Guinea, the Dominican Republic, and so on. They often do not have access to laptops, iPads, or Internet connectivity at home. This makes my classroom their hub to connect, innovate, and impact the world.

My Project

I am requesting healthy snacks to recharge mentally and physically at school and home, plus face masks to stay safe. My students always arrive at school hungry to learn. Often times they may leave hungry for more than learning new knowledge.

Healthy food is a very basic need that students sometimes don't have access too, plus face masks to stay safe.

I would like to make sure students have snacks available whenever they might be hungry, as well as to motivate and foster community in the classroom. Plus the face masks will ensure that they remain safe during their daily learning.

Help my students stay hungry to learn by alleviating their hunger for food! Your support in providing healthy snacks will help allow my students to concentrate on thriving as they learn and grow. A full stomach leads to a hungry mind! Face masks make sure we are all safe the rest of the day! Won't you support us?
