This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a Title I school and are from diverse ethnic/cultural backgrounds, namely Bangladeshi, Chinese, Hispanic, and French. 95% of them are Latino and African American. The rest are sparsely mixed with other ethnicities. In my classroom, there are students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities.
My students are an adorable, inquisitive bunch who like to explore through technology.
They enjoy playing educational games, practicing new concepts learned in math, and reading their favorite storybooks online.
After completing their work, many of my students enjoy reinforcing what they're learning by working on a laptop, on the iPad or listening to a book being read electronically. Therefore, getting this project funded will really help them to not only improve their love of technology but also to help them develop a lifelong love for learning.
My Project
I teach in a K/1 self-contained bridge setting. With that being the case, at times I have to teach two separate curriculums which sometimes make it difficult for my students to maintain focus and stay engaged in their work. After teaching the lesson for one grade, students are placed on the computer or the iPad in an effort to reinforce the concepts or skills taught. Therefore, they need headsets so as not to disturb or distract the students I'm currently teaching. It is a challenge, but it can be done with these headsets.
By donating to this project, not only will you help to improve and increase the attention and focus of my students, but you will in long run help to increase their academic achievement as well.
Students will be able to direct their focus on the lesson at hand instead of being distracted by the noise coming from the laptops, iPads and the listening center.
