A Growth Mindset for Fourth Grade

Help me give my students some inspirational books and posters to help them believe that they can do anything that they put their mind to!

My Students

I have a classroom full of phenomenal 4th graders! Our entire school of approximately 200 students is a Title 1 school and my students come from a very small community and a variety of backgrounds.

My students have creative, curious young minds.

The children are all very thankful for what they do have and work hard for it.

Due to living in a small community in Maine, it is a challenge to ask for any new materials. Our school works hard at creating a home-like environment allowing children to feel loved, supported, and comfortable.

My Project

My job as a teacher is to show my students that I believe in them. My dream is to teach them to believe in themselves. Growth mindset is very closely related to self-esteem. A child with very little self-esteem will not perform as well as a child who believes he/she CAN and WILL.

I want to inspire all of my students to have a growth mindset rather than a fixed one.

Students need to learn early on that learning new things does not come easy. It requires effort and perseverance. Teaching and encouraging students to not give up when things get hard is so important!

A good quality classroom library containing growth mindset books for students to read assists in teaching and demonstrating examples of a growth mindset. The posters around the room will be a constant reminder for them if they need a little pick me up!
