Learn to read and read to learn- that's what we do in Second Grade! We read everything we see and every book we can get our hands on. Now that we've read the books in our library, we are ready for new information and new adventures!
Our classroom consists of 30 vibrant and energetic Second Graders.
We come to school everyday ready to learn and excited to open any book we can get our hands on. Our school is located in a struggling, low income community where failing test scores are prevalent but that hasn't stopped us. We are determined to become life-long readers!
My Project
My students need new leveled books, such as Adelita, Bug Parts, Butterflies, Sleeping Ugly, Fly Away Home, Dad Goes to School and School Bus, for our library. New books for our classroom library would give us new opportunities for adventure and new important things to learn about! Many of the new books are leveled books so we can grow stronger reading 'just right' books for our reading level. We can read them during independent reading time and share them with our reading buddies. We will study new genres and authors with the new books as well as characteristics of non-fiction texts. Our teacher would also read the books at read aloud time and teach us new things about the characters and special tricks authors use to write books. Many of the new books will be used as 'mentor texts' and serve as models for our own books we write.
Most importantly, new leveled books for our library will keep reading alive in our classroom.
We have read our library books over and over so many times that many of the books are memorized and no longer provide a challenge. We are truly committed to being life-long readers and your donation would keep the fire burning in our hearts for books.
