My Students

One of my favorite quotes by an artist is "It takes courage to create." Henri Matisse said this, and I see proof of this every day in my classroom. I am amazed by the art they are creating, but they have yet to gain confidence in showing their work with pride. Help us plan an art show for them!

Our school is a neighborhood school in a large city.

We have a community of dedicated teachers who go above and beyond for a group of students with diverse backgrounds. We are a charter school, catering to neighborhood children and a large group of immigrant and refugee children.

My Project

The 6th and 7th grade students spent time this fall creating some amazing Pointillist paintings inspired by George Seurat's Sunday on La Grande Jatte. They created a scene similar to this painting, using their knowledge of parks here in our own city. Their paintings show the basketball courts, playgrounds, vendors and pets that they observe in the time they spend in our city parks. They need to realize how amazing their work is, and I am planning an art show for them in a local coffee shop. I want to purchase frames for their work, and with this I need your help.

Carrying a project to completion and feeling a sense of accomplishment is something that I want our students to experience.

They deserve to feel proud of their hard work. Building confidence gives them motivation to work hard to reach goals in school and in life. These life lessons are an important part of a student's experience in school, and are not often emphasized in curriculum designed with test scores as a goal.
