This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine walking into a class with no supplies. I open my heart and door on the first day of school to many students that have this experience every year. Not having supplies should not be a constant worry for any student.

I work at a Title One school.

Over half of my students come from low income homes and receive free or reduced lunch. Being able to buy supplies is not an option. The first day of Kindergarten is certainly a big deal for them but not having basic school supplies to perform the necessary tasks is certainly an even bigger deal when you are 5 or 6 years old. My students are wonderful and excited to learn but not having school supplies makes the excitement fade fast. Having to watch others use quality supplies or being the one that has to borrow supplies takes the fun out of learning.

My Project

The supplies needed to start the year are essential to my students having a productive start. Classic Primary Composition Books will help with primary writing and keep it organized. Ticonderoga #2 pencils are quality pencils that are easy to sharpen and they stay sharpened longer. Having an electric heavy duty pencil sharpener will allow us to sharpen pencils in less time. Using the manual sharpener hurts my student's hands. Having a variety of crayons for students to use stops them from borrowing from classmates. Organization and structure are important at the kindergarten level. Many students are coming to school for the very first time and struggle with organization. The All About Letters Pocket Chart will help with letter recognition and daily phonics practice. The Classic Birch Tabletop Writing Center will help keep writing supplies organized and ready to use. A Literacy Centers Management board will allow students to keep track of their everyday activities independently.

Your donations are very important because having supplies and being organized will help my students perform day to day activities.

Knowing they have supplies at their reach will allow my students to feel wonderful and stay focused while working in class. Having the needed supplies will give each student an opportunity to be successful in class. Your wonderful donations will also allow all my students to have an organized environment to have a GREAT START in Kindergarten. Thank you so much.
