Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a brand new teacher in a high-needs community. I will be teaching exceptional students across all grade levels and all contents. I am entering a classroom that is full of love but low on supplies.

Not only am I going to be teaching in a neighborhood where there are budget cuts and layoffs happening daily, I also have an empty classroom. It has desks, chairs and textbooks but it does not have all the extras a classroom should have to offer. My students need a comfortable place where they can read other than in their desks and chairs.

I would like to create a comfortable space where my students can read from a vast collection of books. Not all students are able to sit in a chair at a desk all day. Students that are able to read in an environment that is comfortable fosters a love of reading that will stay with them forever.

The U.S. Department of Labor has released the statistic that, "Students who are the first in their families to go to college end poverty in their family lines forever." My students need to read in order to excel in their education. Your help will ensure that my students are able to begin a long lasting relationship with reading that will allow them to go to college and beyond.
