My Students
My Special Needs students come from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. All of them are from immigrant families with a strong work ethic. The school is a Title 1 inner city school and all students receive free lunch.
Despite the fact that English is not the native language spoken at home, the parents feel very strongly about working with their children to help them thrive in school.
Education is held in very high esteem! Many of our projects require the help of a computer to do research or sign on to an educational website.
The children are visual learners and really benefit from the way information is presented via printed books and computers.
My Project
The students in my class are all far below grade level in their Reading, Writing and Comprehension skills. Having a good selection of leveled reading materials will keep their interest and motivate them to read even more.
Books allow them to escape and help their imaginations run wild while transporting them to new places.
My classroom library doesn't have a large collection of books which meet the needs of my students so I would like to have books that will hold their interests and keep them reading in class as well as at home.
Do you remember getting hooked on certain books as a child? All of the excitement you felt waiting for and then finally reading your favorite types of books. My students share the excitement and joy of waiting for and then finally devouring the newest books in our classroom library. They are book-loving, avid readers, and enthusiastic learners.
