My Project
My students need manipulatives to support their understanding of fractions. Teaching students to understand fractions can be such a difficult task as many of our students have too little to no real world experience with fractions. Students spend lots of time in the early grades counting objects and using manipulatives to understand and solve math problems. Students need these same opportunities and experiences as they begin to work with fractions. To build knowledge and understanding of fractions it is imperative that students have hands on models that they can work with in order to understand what a fraction is and how fractions relate to whole numbers.
