My Students
As I enter my 14th year in teaching, I look back and reflect on what makes my class different from those of my colleagues? The answer is simple, I have the ability to fully embrace and adapt to any teaching situation. I have worked in 6 different schools including charter, private and public schools across the East and South Bay areas. Some schools were located in more affluent areas while others in more rural and urban neighborhoods. When someone asks me if I left a school because of the students my answer was always the same, “there are many reasons but my students were never one of them.” This year poses the new challenge of distance learning. Just like a chameleon I have morphed my teaching to a new online set up and am excited to be able to continue to reach students with the use of a more interactive learning environment.
My Project
I have already grown leaps and bounds over the last few weeks in preparation for the new distance learning teaching environment. I have spent countless hours in front of the computer attending webinars and training courses on various online learning platforms. I would love to be able to continue to apply these new interfaces when it is safe to return to the classroom again. One such add-on is called Pear Deck. It converts Google Slides into an interactive presentation where teachers can monitor student responses and provide immediate feedback in real-time. Using interactive slides allows me to get real-time feedback on student learning and take time to reteach misconceptions along the way. The technology equipment will allow me the ability to monitor my student across dual monitors while maneuvering through the different platforms to check for understanding.
