The children are so excited about the guitars that were recently donated from a local organization... but they sound TERRIBLE! :( We need new strings to have a guitar class that is fun and exciting.
Our children come to Tiller School with all different backgrounds and from all over the country.
Tiller school is a Public Charter School that teaches the Responsive Classroom Social Curriculum. We teach children how to care for themselves, others, and their environment. We enable children to take responsibility for their own learning. The music program is fluttering and with your help, we can take off! The children attend music class twice a week for 45 minute periods. We perform, we compose, we arrange, we dance, we learn about our world through MUSIC. Thank you for your interest in helping Tiller School.
My Project
We were fortunate enough to receive 12 child-sized guitars from a local organization that no longer had use for them. We have hung them on the walls of the music classroom - Tiller Music ala House of Blues! The children came to open house just last night and their eyes lit up! They are so excited about music class this year. I am excited about their motivation and I can't wait to dive into a guitar unit this year. Unfortunately, the guitars have not been well cared-for or maintained. They are unplayable at this point. However, a little elbow grease and some new strings will have us up and running. We will learn about harmonic structure, melodic structure, and CULTURE through our guitar unit.
So many of the children at Tiller School have wanted to take private guitar lessons and have asked me for referrals to local studios.
Often times, the families cannot afford the monthly expense of private lessons. I can provide this experience in the classroom with your help!
