My Students

My students are sweet little humanitarians walking around the school, waiting to be spoon-fed knowledge. They are from families at a high poverty level, but they don't know it. They do not complain and are excited about what the day will bring in the form of cognitive learning. They love a good lesson, but I need to continually revamp their learning to make it new and fresh for them.

My students are a mix of Hispanic, African American, Indian, Asian, and Caucasian.

They are always ready to help out and have smiles on their faces. The students who need their emotional intelligence strengthened respond to a stimulating lesson and a safe environment where they feel needed and can be challenged.

My Project

How many of you have experienced being unable to get a certain jingle from a well-known commercial or song out of your head? The addition of music or chant helps us remember something more easily while making it a happy experience. This is the objective of this grant for my primary students who are just learning how to read.

When using musical books to teach, my young learners are getting the vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and listening skills while enjoying the rhythm of the music through songs.

The majority of the time, the learners never really realize that they are learning.

The books with song are great language tools. Songs are great because they create a positive atmosphere. These books happen to have some really cool musicians composing behind the songs in the books. This will enable the students to learn about many musicians and famous songs in our history.

Songs are sticky. They stay with the students long after they leave the classroom. It also happens to be that they all are super fun! I would love to add this additional book genre to my library! For these super reluctant readers, this might just do the trick!
