Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Providing a safe and inviting classroom environment for ALL students has always been my priority as a teacher. 90% of my little learners are from underserved communities and many live in public housing. Additionally, my classroom is almost always their first school experience. Flexible seating such as cushioned floor mats will make whole group learning experiences more comfortable when sitting for an extended amount of time and can also serve as a space for mindfulness activities, which are needed to deescalate behaviors that arise from students who are new to school. Also, young students often find sitting at conventional desks or tables constricting and, for some, difficult to adapt at such a young age, especially for underrepresented students. Floor desks and trays provide a more developmentally appropriate alternative for these students and meet their bodily kinesthetic learning. With the TPT gift card, I will be able to provide lessons about racial justice and diversity, which meet the needs and are suitable for such young students.
