My Students
"Where's the mouse on this thing!" That was the first comment out of most of my students' mouths after setting up their new netbooks. We are creatures of habit, and using a regular mouse is just a habit my students are not ready to break!
My students are an enthusiastic, creative and hard working bunch of fifth graders.
They are digital natives and are all about anything that has to do with a computer. They are a very diverse group both academically and socially. Their common thread is their ability to stay positive even when they don't have the things they need.
My Project
Just last week, through a grant provided to our school system, every fifth grader in the system received a brand new netbook to use until they graduate from twelfth grade! My students and I have been discussing all kinds of presentations and projects that these new netbooks can be used to create next semester. Unfortunately, these netbooks did not come with a mouse or mouse pad and many of my students are not yet comfortable using the netbook "mouse".
