Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My Transitional Kindergarten (TK) students attend a Title 1 school and most are attending school for the first time. School can be scary for some of them, but having a pretend kitchen area in the classroom, helps alleviate some of their fears because they realize that school can be fun. They have a love for dramatic play, and they enjoy playing in the kitchen area. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of pretend food and accessories for them to play with.
Having a variety of pretend food, pots and pans, aprons, and accessories would allow for my students to let their creativity flow by serving up delicious treats and meals for their friends and myself.
They love pretending that they are chefs and they have a sense of accomplishment when they do so. They will be playing with food from the different food groups and this will also help them learn about nutrition and a balanced meal.
