My students need a document camera so that we can all see the words and pictures of a book, even if there is only one copy.

My Students
A typical day in my classroom begins with my 30 second graders gathering on our rug for a Read Aloud. I would love to see all of my students ready for third grade by being on or above grade level in Reading and Math. My biggest challenge in getting them there is our lack of supplies.
The K-8, public elementary school that my second grade students attend is in a low socioeconomic neighborhood.
The 28 multicultural children that I spend most of my day with are extremely hard working and come to school each day to do their absolute best. Although our classroom has the bare minimum, in terms of supplies and equipment, my students make the best out of so little. It makes me feel extremely privileged to be their teacher. The children have also formed a bond with each other that goes beyond the walls of the classroom. They are very helpful to each other, and the first ones to finish an assignment are also the first ones to want to help their classmates. My students are also a very "giving" group. Although most of their families do not have funds to spare, the children recently emptied their own piggy banks to help raise money for little boys and girls with cancer.
My Project
Being able to have a document camera in my classroom will be a valuable tool I will be able to use in many ways. Being able to share with my students the words and pictures of a book that I have only one copy of would be a great way for everyone to see the pictures and words clearly. I would be able to show the students important points of the story, and the special ways authors used words to teach writing and grammar. I could also use the document camera to display a student's work, and have them explain how they got their answer. Then, I would be able to place another student's work next to the original piece, and we could examine how a problem was solved in two different ways. The children could learn so much from each other. They would be able to see their own work being displayed for the whole class to see. I could do writing lessons with actual student work, in their own handwriting, and model for them how to improve so many things!
Donations to this project will make such a difference in my classroom.
For the first time, the students will be able to see each other's work, and we can all work together to improve our writing. I know this will change the way they view Writing, because they will be excited to see their work up on the screen. The children themselves can fix their work, and the entire class will be able to watch how this happens.
